Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai songs

Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai is a 1960 Hindi film directed by Radhu Karmakar. The film stars Raj Kapoor, Pran and Padmini. The team of Shankar Jaikishan wrote music for the film, which includes the hit songs penned by Shailendra "O Basanti", "Jis desh men ganga behti hai" and "Aa ab lout chalen".

It tells the tale of a village simpleton singing away “Mera naam Raju gharana anaam behti hai Ganga jahan mera dham” in the Madhya Pradesh ravines who is captured and taken a prisoner while attempting to save the leader of a gang of outlaws, Raka, wounded in a gun battle. In a somewhat open captivity he flips for the dacoit chieftain’s (Nayanpalli) daughter Kammo (Padmini) who is also Raka’s love interest. While singing reverential songs and invoking the purity of the Ganga he sets about to reform the dacoits, amply supported by Kammo who had herself indulged in minor acts of dacoity in the past.

Pran lived the role of Raka and had never looked more menacing in any of his earlier get-up and roles. Despite attributes and motives Padmini too proved brilliant, especially in the song and dance situations, and in her encounters with Raj and confrontations with Pran. Her teasing and mocking moments with Kapoor, especially the way she shifted glances and uttered ‘hoi hoi ho’ (which even got used as a break in the song narratives) turned out to be a scoring point in the movie which had as many as eight extremely hummable songs penned by the inimitable Shailendra-Hasrat Jaipuri combo, and set to lilting music by Shankar Jaikishen. “Begani shadi mein Abdullah deewana” (Mukesh-Lata); “Kya-Hua” (Lata-Asha) and the solo Mukesh number “Aa ab laut chale” (though he won the Filmfare trophy for “Honton pe sachchai rehti hai”).
